BUBBLE LEVEL RECORDER
GENERAL

The water level recorder using bubble system has been designed for the measurement and recording of water levels at sites where the use of conventional float-operated recorders is not recommendable, e.g.
 

  •     elongated flat-inclined slopes
  •     on rocky bottom and or banks
  •     .....


Below the lowest water level to be measured there is the orifice of the measuring tube (air hose). Gas (generally compressed air) is continuously supplied by means of a compressed air bottle, internal or external compressor. The gas flows into the measuring tube and evenly bubbles out into the water.

Data recording on strip chart and/or data logger.
 

MEASUREMENT SPECIFICATIONS

Depending on the height of water level (h) above the point of orifice, a gas pressure is produced in the measuring tube of a magnitude equal to the hydrostatic pressure (p) :

 p = r . h    (r = specific gravity of water).

Different measuring ranges are possible, mainly : 0-2.5 m ; 0-5 m ; 0-10 m ; 0-20 m. The accuracy is of about 1 cm for 10 m measuring range.
 

CONDITIONS OF USE

Generally the permissible flow velocity at the bubbling orifice is of 3 m.s-1 , and the maximum rate of water level change of 25 cm/mn.
The maximum length of the measuring tube is 300 metres.
Power supply by storage battery 12V and solar panel.
